Summer 2020 - Hot Springs Bike Tour
Summer Break 2020 - Hot Springs Bike Tour
Trip Status:
Lottery is now open! Applications will not be accepted after March 5th.
Date:
Monday, July 27th through Thursday, July 30th, 2020
Ages:
Rising 6th through 12th graders (who just graduated). Space is limited. Priority will be given to students who were wait-listed for previous expeditions.
Chaperones:
Ms. Riley Nelson (1st grade), Mr. Joel Huettig (5th grade)
Expedition Description:
This is a classic Sage Expedition!! Come join us as we ride bikes through the southern Sawtooth Mountains and stop at several hot springs along the way. On Monday, we will meet at Sage, load up bikes, and drive to outside of Ketchum, ID. From there, most of the biking will be downhill on forest service roads and we will divide up into skill level groups as best we can. Wednesday will be a layover day with options to soak in hot springs, do some trail riding, or ride on dirt roads. Thursday, we will bike some more, before loading up and driving back to Sage around 7pm.
Student Expectations:
This longer expedition will require students to be flexible, willing to put the group before their own needs (at times), and excel with work like cooking, cleaning, and keeping organized. While some experience in the outdoors and biking will be beneficial, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to tolerate adversity are more important. This is probably not the trip for the younger student who has never been on a mountain bike before.
Also, the trip will be moderately strenuous.
Students should be in good cardiovascular shape and be ready to bike for multiple hours each day. There will always be a sag vehicle that can pick up struggling students or students that are having bike troubles.
Due to the nature of the forest service roads, it is mandatory that bikes have at least 26 inch wheels and be in good condition.
Cost:
$350, which includes transportation and all food (not bikes). Scholarships are always available, although due to the nature of the trip, the most the trip will be discounted is half off. Please read the description on the Sage Expeditions
website
and then email Eric Wakild at
eric.wakild@sageinternationalschool.org
to discuss the options.
Time:
Departure times on Monday, July 27th are still being decided by the group. Expect the early morning. The hope would be to return by 7pm on Thursday, July 30th.
Bring/Wear:
July weather in the Idaho mountains can be unpredictable - expect anything from cold and cloudy to hot and sunny. As the winter and spring play out, we will have a better sense of what to expect. A complete gear and clothing list will be provided, and we will check gear before we leave.
All food will be provided on this trip.
Register:
To enroll, please fill out the
Registration Form
. Registrations will not be accepted after March 12th. Please print and sign the
Risk Waiver
(You only need to complete this once per year for day/weekend trips). If your student will be bringing and taking medication on the trip, please complete and turn in this
Medication Form
.
