Hot Springs Bike Tour

Hot Springs Bike Tour

Dates: Monday July 9th- Thursday July 12th
Grades: 6th-12th Cost: $275
Trip Leaders: Alex Olsen, Keith Donahue and one more staff yet to be determined.

This bike tour will include pleasant scenery, camping, hot springs, swimming, fishing, and so on in that spectacular and little-traveled area between Ketchum and Boise.

The rides each day will be between 15 and 35 miles, with the difference taking into account the elevation gained and lost.  Pretty much the entire ride will be on graded gravel roads. Mountain bikes would be the ideal mode of transportation, but it would be do-able on a sturdy touring bike, so long as the tires were somewhat fat.

The whole trip will be supported by Sage vehicles, which can tote a relatively luxurious amount of car-camping gear and fresh food.  We will have the vehicle "sweep" the route a couple times during the day so that anyone too tired or with a broken bike can get help, or just catch a ride to camp.  The staff have a lot of experience fixing bikes, and will have a bunch of tools with them to deal with breakdowns.

The ride is at a relatively high elevation at times, with the valleys being around 4-5 thousand feet, and the tops of the passes being at 6500-7500 feet.  It being July, likely this will mean very pleasant temperatures during the day and crisp evenings perfect for sleeping.

We will stay in USFS campgrounds each night, which generally provide water and a pit toilet.  Cell phones will likely be inoperable, and there will be little opportunity to charge electronics.  If at all possible, it's best just to leave them at home.

The views are superb, the riding excellent, and water (both hot and cold) the finest in the world.  So strap in riders, and prepare for adventure!!! Also just chilling out in some hot springs.
